Zihuatanejo is the fourth largest city in the Mexican state of Guerrero and often paired with the modern tourist resort of Ixtapa. Fonatur, Mexico’s National Tourism Foundation developed Ixtapa as a tourist attraction the early 1970s. Zihuatanejo keeps its traditional fishing village feel in spite of its glitzier neighbor.  It is now the third most visited area in Mexico after Cancún and Puerto Vallarta and the most popular for sports fishermen.

The town hosts an annual festival called the Annual Zihua Sail Fest. It raises funds for the education of disadvantaged children in Zihuatanejo. In 2009, the event raised $640,000 pesos, along with a matching grant and a donation of $20,000 USD by the Rotary Club.
